1.       Where is the 5-mi race course?
  • Start is on Wolf Road just east of the entrance to Bay High School and the course proceeds west through Bay.  The finish line is on or near the track in the stadium of Bay High School.
  • In 2021 the start and finish may be adjusted dependent on possible construction at the High School during the summer.
2.       Where is the Kids' Fun Run race course?
  • Start is on Wolf Road just east of the entrance to Bay High School and the course will go west on Wolf and north on a side street before turning back onto the high school grounds and finishing on or near the stadium track.
3.        When does the Kids' Fun Run start (and finish)?
  • The Kids' Fun Run will begin at the same location approximately 5-10 minutes after the start of the 5-mile race (~08:35-08:40am).  Basically, as soon as the last runners and walkers for the 5-mile race have cleared out of the starting area and first section of the course and the timing system is set for the Kids' race, we will organize the kids for the start of their  race.
  • The Kids' race will then complete before the first runner from the 5-mi race approaches the finish area.
  • Because the 5-mi runners will be shortly coming across the finish line, we ask that Kids' race  participants move away from the finish area after completing their race to avoid any congestion and collisions.
4.       What are the Age Groups and Age Group awards?
  • For the 5-mi race:  <10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over
  • For the Kids' run: <7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13
  •  Awards ceremony after the race, near Bay High Stadium.

5.       Will this race be chip timed?
  • True chip timing with start and finish mats
  • Live streaming of results via email and text newly available this year via the online registration process

6.       Will there be water stops on the course?
  • Water will be available at several locations on the 5-mi course

7.       Will there be a bag drop area?
  • No, a formal bag drop is not planned for this event.  Ample parking is available in close proximity to the start/finish so runners should be able to leave personal items in their cars.

8.       Where are the parking spaces and road closures?
  • Wolf Road will close from the High School and west near the starting time of the race.  Additional streets used by the course will be closed as the race pack approaches.
  • Substantial parking will be available at Bay High School.  Nearby side streets to the north and south are additional options.

10.   Are jogging strollers permitted in the race?
  • Yes, parents may run with a jogging strollers recognizing they assume the responsibility for the safety and security of the child passenger.
  • Strollers should begin from the back of the starting pack to avoid congestion with runners sprinting from the start.

11.   Are walkers welcome to participate in the event?
  • Yes, participants of all abilities are welcome including walkers.
  • Anyone planning to walk, should start from the back of the starting pack to avoid congestion with faster runners wanting to sprint from the start.
  • Participants who are finishing at a later time may be asked to move onto the sidewalks which are available along the entire course.  The Bay Village Police cannot keep the roads closed indefinitely and will be the determining authority for when various road sections must be reopened.
12.   May adults/parent run or accompany their child in the Kids' Fun Run?
  • Adults  may accompany their child in the  Kids' run but the adult will not receive their own time or award. Though, we suggest:
    • Children over 8 or 9 tend to be mature enough to run on their own, and most would prefer it. Though we also recognize that even older children who are just starting a physical fitness program often appreciate a parent jogging alongside.
    • The real key is: If  your child is among the top 10 to 20  runners at the turn-around point,  then please back  off and let your child compete the last half  of  the race on his or her own.
    • Remember July can be hot, and young children sometimes struggle with temperature control, so if your child wants to slow down then please let  him or her do so.
13.   Do the proceeds from the race support any cause?
  • This race is hosted by Cleveland West Road Runners Club, an non-profit club.  Net proceeds from this race and similar events throughout the year provide charitable support to the Cleveland Metroparks Trails Fund, the Girls With Sole charity, and underwrites free or subsidized entry for youth in running events and other active life events throughout the Westshore.
  • Additionally, registrants are invited to make an optional, voluntary donation during registration to the Carolyn L. Farrell Foundation for brain health.  This foundation provides activity based programs for people living at home with dementia/Alzheimer's. They bring programming to the community in order to help support people's treatment plan and management of their illness.  More information on the foundation available at - http://www.farrellfoundation.org/
